The latest in a long line of outstandingly popular sub-bass loudspeakers, Turbosound has launched the TSW-218DP, a digitally self-powered double 18" horn-loaded sub-bass cabinet.

Featuring a state of the art, 2500 watt Class D amplifier module with highly sophisticated 96kHz DSP, the TSW-218DP is one of the most efficient sub-bass cabinets on the market. "Using our tried and tested TurboBass loading principles, the 218DP's horn flares are designed to couple beneficially when used in multiples, and this gives a dramatic gain in sensitivity and flat response down to 32Hz," says Turbosound's Development Director Dominic Harter. "For large-scale concert touring and festivals - as well for larger dance clubs - the 218DP provides enough serious low end to complement all musical styles."

In spite of its prodigious electrical to acoustic power conversion, the TSW-218DP's modest dimensions and low weight are due in part to the proprietary neodymium-magnet 600 watt 18" drive units, saving around 20kgs on overall weight compared to traditional ferrite magnets. In addition, the digital amplifier module weighs only 2kg, which together with the heavy duty wheels makes the cabinet easy to truck and handle. The extremely close proximity of the drive units to the amplifier effectively eliminates all but the smallest cable losses and reduces damping losses to minimal.

The TSW-218DP ideally partners Aspect TA-890 and 880 mid/highs, TA-500 wide dispersion mid/highs, and Flex Array TFA-600 cabinets, with which it has been providing high quality full audio for Zagreb-based Croatian PA company Lite Prom and Dino Merlin's shows in Sarajevo. "I've replaced all my non-powered 218's with the new self-powered 218DP's on this show because of the convenience and simplicity of set up. And they sound awesome!" says Lite Prom's Zeljko Radocaj.

Tad Kuhl from Entertainment Concepts Investors, Inc (ECI) in the US, intends to put TSW-218DP's to good use in an upcoming Flex Array install at Luckies in Baltimore. Having auditioned the self-powered subs from distributor American Music & Sound, Tad commented: "Wow! These things can blow your skull off!"
