Flex Array makes Canadian trade show debut

MIAC Show

August 24th/25th saw the annual Music Industries Association of Canada trade show take place at Toronto’s International Centre, where much attention was focused on the first major Canadian showing of UK loudspeaker manufacturer Turbosound’s new Flex Array system.

Displayed on the stand of its Canadian distributor, Quebec-based Erikson Pro, Flex Array was exhibited alongside Turbosound’s industry-leading TFM wedge monitors and the recently upgraded Impact and TCS Compact series.

“Flex Array attracted a great deal of attention because of its unique combination of point source and line array technology. It is a genuine advance in live sound technology,” says Erikson Pro’s Turbosound product specialist Claus Frostell.

“The stand was extremely busy throughout the show, the new Impact and TCS Compact series also attracting a lot of interest from installation sound contractors.”

About the new products:
Flex Array is a medium–scale professional sound reinforcement system that combines elements of Turbosound’s patented point-source system with well proven line-array technology, resulting in a truly versatile, one-box-fits-all loudspeaker product suitable for a huge variety of venue types. By simply changing the orientation of the cabinet, one enclosure type is capable of being used in either line array or point source configurations. The ability to rotate the mid/high waveguide within the enclosure gives additional flexibility of use from only one type of box.

The all-new Flex Array system has been designed from the ground up, resulting from a three-year development cycle closely related to the development of the Polyhorn™, and utilises Turbosound’s patent pending Dendritic horn, which produces a line source element with superior directional qualities together with trademark Turbosound clarity and definition. All neodymium drive units ensure that weight is kept to a minimum for easy trucking and handling.

Flex Array is fully arrayable with flyware integrated into the box for rapid setup with no external parts, or can be used with external yokes and brackets for semi-permanent and fixed installations. The bandpass low frequency cabinet utilises a high power neodymium 18” drive unit and can either be flown with mid/highs, or ground stacked. Digitally self-powered versions with integrated lightweight Class D amplifier modules are also available, making Flex Array products ideal for the corporate market as well as for live sound applications.

Catering for the style-led areas of the fixed install market, the new Impact series, builds on the great success of the Impact 50 and Impact 80 since their launch over a decade ago. Now in elegantly styled, paintable, injection moulded enclosures with IP54 weather resistance, the Impact series loudspeakers are perfectly suited to fixed installations in cafés, bars, houses of worship — particularly sensitive locations, where the audio system needs to be as unobtrusive as possible — and leisure facilities, as well as for corporate events.

The series boasts a very neat and practical mounting solution: a wall bracket with integrated electrical connections for extremely fast and easy installation, allowing brackets to be sited and fixed prior to the loudspeakers being on-site. The Impact 55T and Impact 65T both feature internal muti-tapped line transformers for use with 70 volt line and 100 volt line distributed systems in larger commercial installations.
